International Literacy Day

September 8, 2010 marks International Literacy Day throughout the world. Literacy Volunteers Western Cook County (LVWCC) will be celebrating this event, along with the Elmwood Park Public Library, River Forest Public Library, Berwyn Public Library, Westchester Public Library and Forest Park Public Library. Participating libraries will be handing out carnations, candy, apples and special bookmarks to library patrons to promote this event.

Founded by The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), International Literacy Day is celebrated worldwide.  The intent of International Literacy Day is to call attention to the importance of advancing worldwide literacy.
